Networking groups: Snapshot survey
In the May 2009 eNewsletter we invited members to share their thoughts about their networks and their importance.
Unsurprisingly, over 76% of respondents replied that they were part of a network group. For those not part of a networking group, the two main reasons were that they didn’t know where to start or they had never thought about it.
Research about networks focus on the fact that whilst we have networks all around us, we just need to tap into them. Support for this point was evident in the survey as the top two places where respondents have joined their networks were at the workplace or with friends.
These networks are a two-way interaction for their members, and respondents have been contacted and have contacted their networks for most of the following: support, advice on dealing with workplace challenges, mentoring, employment opportunities, coaching and personal advice.
Respondents reinforced the value of networks by responding that their networks are either very important or important to them, and varied experience was the most important aspect of their networks.
Keeping in touch with their networks is done on a regular basis with 71% of respondents replying that they meet with their networks once every couple of months or every month.
With these responses, it’s clear to see that networks are invaluable support networks for respondents, and that it’s important to maintain a regular connection with colleagues and peers.
