Self-improvement in hard times: Snapshot surveyIn the August 2009 eNewsletter we invited members to tell us how they may have worked at developing themselves during the economic downturn.
Just over a quarter of respondents noted that they have taken active steps to develop their skills by enrolling in tutorials or classes. Three quarters have picked up books to assist them as they go. We were also surprised that more than half of respondents said they have been taking on extra work responsibilities as a means of protecting their jobs. More so, over a quarter have oicked up other income streams, and more than half feel that their job may be at risk. Our survey findings reflect the recent results of a major survey conducted by Hudson as part of its 20:20 Series in Australia and New Zealand. In their survey, they found that nearly half (44%) of employees believe that worker morale has plummeted, yet only 26% of employers acknowledge that workplace morale has dropped since the economic downturn.
