Reflections on 2009:
Snapshot survey
In the December 2009 eNewsletter we invited members to share their reflections on 2009.
The survey reveals that respondents had a largely encouraging and – perhaps even – forgiving year.
Almost all respondents indicated that they took the time to thank someone else for doing a great job. And over 95% of respondents said that they held their head high during a difficult experience.
In terms of negative experiences, we were not surprised to find that time was the big killer for most women. Around two-thirds of respondents (65%) said that they wished that they had two extra hours a day to get everything done.
The following comment typified the feeling of 'absolute rush' that many women experience daily:
"I would like to be able to create time in my day to reflect on matters in order to retain incoming information and provide sound direction to my team rather than forgetting things or giving people a different message because i've forgotten what I told them in the first place!"
Balacing competing demands over time came up as the overall weakest araa of optimism regarding 2010. Whilst respondents were very optimistic about both professional and personal life areas, when the issue of work/life balance is considered, there is clearly much more pessimism.
