Your financial style: Snapshot survey

March 2010 survey chartIn the March 2010 eNewsletter we invited members to 'fess up' to just what sort of spenders they are.

It wasn't an easy survey to take. Many people find it hard to admit that they're anything other than a totally rational, savvy spender.

But, sadly, many of us bring baggage to our buying habits.

Perhaps reflecting the tight financial times we live in – or at least the perception that we do – almost half of the survey respondents (48%) identified as 'Bargain hunters'.

These people focus primarily on how much they will save. And they're easily swayed by a good deal.

Almost a quarter of respondents identified as 'Emotional Spenders'. They buy impulsively. Sometimes, shopping fills an emotional need.

Interestingly, in almost all the categories, upwards of 50% of respondents indicated that each category is 'Kind of me, but not always'. It seems that most of us like to favourably hand-pick the positive elements of different shopping styles.

Of course the bias with this survey is that it relies on self-reporting. We here at Women and Leadership Australia wonder how the results would differ if we were to invite our partners, friends and family to tell us what sorts of spenders we are.
